Fast-pitch Softball Windmill Pitching

Welcome to Fast-Pitch.com!

This site provides some assistance to pitchers that are either starting out or trying to improve their pitching skills. There is no substitute for a coach so after you read through part or all of the site, try to select a good coach in your area to help you get to your goal faster.

Information shown on this site is a brief overview compared to all the information needed. The best written material and drawings came from "Fastpitch Softball The Windmill Pitcher," by Barry E. Sammons which is highly recommended for all pitching coaches. The best VCR tapes are from Ernie Parker. The book and tapes are available at Amazon.com.

If you live in the Sterling, VA., area, I can help you with personal instructions.

Technique and Mechanics

The best pitchers have different techniques or mechanics. Watch the Team USA Olympic pitchers or college pitchers during their playoffs and you will find that there is no one way to pitch that is best. What you will see is that each pitcher is consistent and no matter what their technique, they always pitch in exactly the same way. If you are working with a coach, try to find one that does NOT say, "This is the only way!"

Some pitchers bend over when they start, some crouch, and some stand straight! Some pitchers start their windmill at their hip, others go back a little and some swing their arm way back. Some pitchers pivot on their back foot and others do not. This web site will show a set of mechanics but in no way should you feel this is the only way or even the best way for you to pitch. These mechanics are considered as a good way to gain and maintain control.
